Fairy Meadows & Diamer
Fairy Meadows is Pakistan's most famous viewpoint, and it earns the name. A high alpine pasture at 3,300 m, it looks straight onto the Raikot face of Nanga Parbat (8,126 m) — the western anchor of the Himalaya, rising three vertical kilometres above the meadow's pine forests and log cabins.
Getting there is half the adventure: a white-knuckle jeep ride up one of the world's most spectacular mountain tracks from the Raikot Bridge on the Karakoram Highway, followed by a 2–3 hour walk (or pony ride) through forest to the meadows. Nights here are unforgettable — the mountain glows at sunset, and the Milky Way arches over its summit ridge after dark.
From the meadows, day hikes continue to Beyal Camp and Nanga Parbat Base Camp, where climbers' memorials look out over the Raikot Glacier. It's a place that suits everyone from families (who go as far as the meadow) to serious trekkers pushing on to base camp.

How difficult is the hike to Fairy Meadows?
The 5 km trail from Tattu gains about 600 m and takes 2–3 hours at a relaxed pace. It's manageable for anyone of reasonable fitness, including older children; ponies can carry those who prefer to ride. The onward hike to Nanga Parbat Base Camp is a tougher full-day walk.
Is the Fairy Meadows jeep road dangerous?
The track is narrow and dramatic, but it is driven daily in season by experienced local drivers in 4x4s maintained for this road — only local jeeps are permitted, which keeps the drivers expert and the pace careful. Millions of safe trips have been made; if you prefer, you can walk sections of it.
What accommodation is available at Fairy Meadows?
Wooden cottages and huts (Raikot Sarai, Fairy Meadows Cottages and others) plus seasonal glamping tents. Rooms are simple — this is an off-grid alpine pasture — but warm bedding, hot meals and generator/solar power are standard. Book ahead for June–September.
